It's in the EPEL repo. I think it would be easier to install the IBM JDK. It's
v9 engine has support for all the latest instructions.

Frank - if this is ClefOS,
then this is what i did to get 1.9:
yum remove java
yum list installed |grep java
yum remove java-1.8.0-openjdk-headless.s390x yum install
java-9-openjdk.s390x
now i get:
# java -version
openjdk version "9-ea"
