Hello,

According to Red Hat's support, the hibernation mechanism for the s390x
architecture was abandoned in RHEL 9 because it is broken and there is a
lack of interest from customers.

We regret this because it would have allowed us to improve the quality
of our backups, by flushing Linux's memory to swap space.

Presently, we backup our VMs from z/OS using ADRDSSU and Flashcopy, but
we lose what is in memory at the time of the snapshot. Restoring such a
backup is like restarting after having pulled the power plug.

Though we haven't had any issues with this method, I am wondering if
there might be a better way to backup live Linux systems, without buying
some sophisticated product ?

Regards,

Frederic Mancini
