In the IBM i world, integration between Linux on Power and IBM i is
increasingly important.
Even though we have a Unix-like environment as part of the IBM i base OS
(z/OS has USS, IBM i has PASE), there's some stuff that just works
better on Linux.
Some Miltons resist the obvious benefits of integration with Power Linux
but ideology is yielding to the business case.
Every indication (e.g., the young Z-folks on LinkedIn) is that the case
is being made in the Z world effectivly.

I support a few accounts, and they are not phasing down Linux, on the
opposite. One just started a feasibility study on migrating DB2 workloads
from zOS to Linux. Another account has so many Linux servers they installed
IBM ICIC to allow the dev team to do auto-provisioning from themselves,
while the zVM team manages resource pools, capacity planning, performance
measurement, things like that. Creating and deleting guests is done by the
end users themselves.
Linux on Z have a lot of potential and several shops are using that
potential.

Based on published information, I wouldn’t use the word “still” as if it’s
a has-been technology. Linux workloads continue to grow. There’s a reason
we have a LinuxONE brand.
