I know how frustrating it can be to have a
computer that is not stable, but I want to
report that after some research, I have a
stable dual BP6 system. Here are the specs:
366@550 x2
128M Cas2 Micron PC100 Ram
Guillemot GeForce DDR-DVI
SBLive!
3Com 3c590 10/100 NIC
Maxtor 8.4GB HD
Plextor 8432A CDRW
Generic ATAPI 32X CD-ROM
My uptime is now 4 days. My last reboot was
due to an upgrade to the 2.2.14 kernel.
(Needed for the updates to the scsi-general
layer.) I have had longer uptimes.. as my
computer had not locked/oops'ed yet. I run
2 rc5 clients nonstop and I am in and out of
X all the time. I use a modified version of
the SVGA X server for the GeForce.
One thing to keep in mind. S3 video cards
DO NOT work with the BP6 in X, or any other
graphical environment. You can get by in
console mode, but you will still crash every
once in a while. I first had a 4M Virge/DX
video card which made my computer very
unstable. I switched to a 2M Trident card
until my GeForce arrived and I have not had
a problem since. I hope this helps some of
you out.
You really can find a lot of good
troubleshooting info on the www.bp6.com
website. It helped me out in my time of
confusion some 3 months ago.
Take care,
Robert J. Casey Jr.
