do people with allegedly slow bp6 machines have dma enabled?
/sbin/hdparm /dev/hda will tell the truth.
btw does anyone know why redhat and mandrake stopped enabling dma by
default with their 6.1 release? andre?
me, i get "184%" processor utilization building kernels with make -j3,
with a corresponding decrease in cpu and elapsed times.
i have noticed, however, that using make -j3 in building RPMs does not
get me a speedup on any sort of smp machine, PII or Celeron. i failed to
discover why but i wouldn't be surprised if rpm itself somehow (how??)
supressed it.
