In this case - what is your kernel version & network card.
You should really use the latest 2.2.15preXX (now XX=17 I think)

I have eth0 3com and now I'm unable to lock my machine with any test
I've invented before while I'm using this latest kernel together
with latest driver for 3com from the authors' website.

The only thing I'm noticing is that it looks like the machine is
somehow more lazy than it used to be. I suppose this is the result
of doubling BogoMIPS value in recent kernels. Its noticable
on swapping as my computer is far less responsible when doing
make -j 8.  But on the other side its not crashing.
