If only it were only one. The US Forest service had a few dozen
out-of-control fires this summer....all because they REFUSE to let
the timber companies come in and cut fire-breaks.

I run SmartSuite as well, and it is a far better Office Suite in my
opinion.
I hate MS because of several reasons:
1. Dirty tricks back in the 1980's and 1990's, especially against
Digital Research and IBM's OS/2.
2.Overpaying for bug fixes. Yea I know you can download them for free,
but there is always "something" missing from the free version, that
might actually be useful. Upgrading from Windows 98 to Se should be
$10 at the most. Same for ME.
3. The ever changing standards, like Direct-X, Active-X or whatever it
is called today. Now we have the wdm standard (or whatever it is) for
multimedia drivers. I realize improvements must be made and we must
move forward but this is getting ridiculous. The current media player
is an example. It's clear they are trying to put the Winamps and
MusicMatch Jukeboxes out of business, and doing a piss poor job of it
as well. The latest Media player is a disaster.
4. The arrogance of Gates and Ballmer.
I don't use any MS apps except for Windows and Flight Simulator
because of the reasons above.

Point of open source software is that it allows greater transperency between
the end user and the programmer. The expectations of Linux programmers when
it comes to writting the Linux Kernel 2.4 is much higher than what Microsoft
has. Also Linux 2.4 is also a major overhall in the respects that the
device layer has been redesigned, new scalability has been added so that it
can reach the same heights as commerical UNIX's.
Chad, before you make pre-emptive multi-bullshitting, analyse the Linux
Kernel 2.4 and compare it to Windows 2000. Windows 2000 was meant to be the
biggest thing since slice bread, the replacement for Windows 9x and NT,
however, due to development delays Microsoft scaled back its ambicious
program. Unlike Microsoft, Linux 2.4 has stayed on course to meet the
expects originally set out in the original kernel 2.4 manefesto.

Regardless--PUNISHING a company for offering a competitor's product

Ask the Big 3 automakers in Detroit what happens if they try playing
such games with a dealership that dares to sell from multiple manufacturers.

Really. IBM was put under a consent decree for similar practices.
The automakers were told to discontinue this "tough business practice"
or face heavy fines.
IBM can't do it
GM can't do it
Ford can't do it
Chrysler can't do it.
What is the basis for your argument that Bill should be a special exception?

And GM can freely choose to pay $10,000/spark plug. But that doesn't mean
that would stay in business for more than another week.
So, your point is?

Quite true. Libertarianism does NOT mean anarchy.
Libertarianism involves protection of individual rights, and that includes
protecting the free market from those who would seek to keep all competitors
from even having their product offered to the general public.
