Yet, the French resistance, and the Russian and Yugoslav partisans were
able to fight the Germans successfully for YEARS despite a complete
ban on the sale of weapons and ammunition to civilians.

HOW?

Simple. They used their pre-existing (not-confiscated-by-their-government)
weapons to shoot German soldiers, and then capture the weapons and ammunition
from the dead.

You must remember...we BROUGHT our own docks.

I believe the code-word for them was "rhubarbs". Huge pre-cast

Interesting. I just tried it, and it worked fine. Reload and

One of the joys of SuSE is going into yast after an install / update and
picking through the new stuff, or things I'd like to try, or the things
I thought I was going to try but didn't have the time, and the rest.
I've been known to piddle away entire weekends installing a package,
shifting to another virtual to try it out, then going to the next
package. It really is delicious fun.

Noting your .sig, I just freed up a spare computer, hooked it up to the
LAN, and installed Debian via ftp (I love broadband :)). So far I've
got a command prompt and LILO. I'm determined to get this thing off the
ground. One of the helpfuls is that I have SuSE still running, so I can
read online documentation as I work with it.

The "war cry," tongue in cheek, appears to be "World Domination - ASAP!"

Hess was Hitler's 2nd in command. I think he recognized that
Hitler had bitten off more than he could chew by prosecuting a
war with England. It wasn't part of the plan....and, in fact,
seriously endangered the plan. In fact...if Britain had stayed
OUT of the war, then Hitler probably would have succeeded in
his plan of reincarnating the Roman Empire under German rule.

Op. Sea Lion was an unworkable plan, obviously thrown together
at the last minute.

The plan to use river barges for trans-channel movement of men
and materiel was grasping at straws...even if the RAF had been defeated.

The German General Staff was VERY professional. If Sea Lion had
been developed before the invasion of Poland, it would have been
MUCH better done....i.e. called for proper landing craft, rather
than relying upon *hope* and barges meant for riverine commerce.

> The main reason was the RAF and the RN. The British army sucked,

If the RAF had fallen (and they were within days of doing so if
Hitler had not switched to targeting London), the RN would have
been useless.

> but they had a first-rate air force and navy, and so the Germans

First-rate pilots don't mean a thing when all the aircraft
factories are bombed out. The day the Luftwaffe started bombing
London (in response to an RAF bomber jettisoning it's bombload
over Berlin), the RAF was down to a 4-hour supply of critical
repair and maintenance parts. Both the Spitfire and Hurricane
production centers had been under attack for several weeks.

> didn't have a hope of getting their large, powerful armies across

The assertion is NOT that NRA guns were needed...but that
misguided gun-control laws from the 1920's (for fear of the
lower classes overthrowing the government) had left the
country with a desperate shortage of small arms.

Had two things happened:

A) Hitler kept the Luftwaffe attacking the RAF's infrastructure
   (fighter bases and factories), and
B) A Sea Lion-like plan been PROPERLY developed in the 1930's,
so that proper invasion equipment could be manufactured...

The world would be *very* different today.

Thankfully, neither A nor B happened, therefore C (German invasion
of Britain) never happened either.

I think Chad is missing the point once again. A hype is by
definition not a good thing; for one thing it is artificially
inflated interest in a product (inflated by marketing mostly).
So Chad just admitted that it takes the MS marketing machine to
drum up interest in XP

I'm not saying it did make a difference. What I'm saying is that
due to foolish gun-controls passed in the 1920's, because the
upper classes were afraid that the lower classes would revolt,
Britain was DESPERATELY short of small arms in the event of an
actual German invasion.

You can download it now if you wish. It consists of three ISO images,
throw them on a CD-ROM. Unfortunately, they don't have the latest
version for download (Solaris 8 01/01) available for download, however,
10/00 w/ the latest patches (12MB) is really stable, I had this puppy up
and running for well over a week with out a crash (prior to the "week" I
was running, shudder, shudder, Windows 2000 Pro).
