I disagree. Some(almost all) of the most durable encryption algorithms are
the ones that have been made open to the public and have been beaten up over
the years. If the strength of your algorithm is to keep it a secret from
everyone, you are in trouble. The secrecy all resides in the key(s).
One can argue the same regarding Linux. The code is wide open and one can
use it to find security holes and open it up but eventually people find it
and the news gets out pretty fast on how to resolve it.

assuming 10 minutes per application plus intervening reboots, I
sincerely doubt that you could get such a long list of applications
installed in a mere 90 minutes.

I have two IDENTICAL machines at home...one with Linux, one with Windows.
The Linux machine is stable. I have tried every hardware swap imaginable
between these two machines to get either
a) the Windows98 machine to quit crashing, or
b) the Linux machine to start crashing.
So far, I have yet to discover *ANY* combination of hardware which
improves the reliability of Windows, nor *ANY combination of the SAME
PIECES OF HARDWARE which provokes Linux to crash.
I even thought of the possibility that Windows makes the CPU get hotter:
The Windows machine even has more fans (about DOUBLE the air-flow rate
through the case).
So, what you're telling us is that Linux has some magic
hardware fixer in it?

I'm starting to suspect that JJ is actually Drestin. I don't have any
proof of this yet; it's just a feeling I have right now. Some of his
responses are very characteristic of Drestin: smugness, annoying

Unfortunately, until Google gets its act together and puts the usenet

The problem is that upper management doesn't realized that, in most
cases, they are utterly unqualified to make these sorts of decisions.
Remember when Roger Smith (an ACCOUNTANT) started sticking his nose into
vehicle-engineering decisions at General Motors?
The only thing that's protecting American businesses and thier foolishness
from European competitors is the onerous burden of extremely heavy
taxation and regulation which European businesses endure (not to mention
subsidizing idleness with utterly insane unemployment benefits...especially
in France).
