I was advised not to use windows telnet for a session at Rice U.
They advised downloading from rice.edu putty.exe, as it is superior to
windows telnet.
It allows one to set up the session to work as a good vt-400 series
terminal emulator.
I used telnet from Sun OS as well. Only I have to watch out for the
backspace key... it moves the cursor to beginning of line instead of
backspacing. I have to use delete key instead.

I couldn't agree more. NT started out using the rings, but then
somebody just had to speed things up and put the video inside the kernel
ring. Very stupid if you ask me.
Thats one of the big sore spots with Dave Cutler. Gates fired him and
his crew tried to incorporate the NT technology to make Win95... it
didn't work. (Inside rumour) Gates had to hire him back at a higher pay
to square things away... I sometimes wonder if Cutler didn't design the
BSOD as some way of revenge.??

Putty works fine. Only you can't copy and paste stuff like you can in
BetterTelnet (which I use on the Mac).
