Remote debugging

Is there a patch to enable remote debugging of the 2.2.* kernels over
a serial line with gdb?  I'm in the process of coding up a device
driver to be used in a Linux cluster on ES40s and thought it would be
useful to remote debug on a different node than the driver is running.
If there isn't a patch, does anyone have some info on what needs to be
done to get this to work on the Alpha platform?
