Hm, well, I doubt that it's the bios32.c changes that cause that
problem, since the PCI bus layout happens well after that.

Just a stab in the dark here ... did you hard-reboot the system before
booting with the patch applied?  I've noticed that on the Miata with
MILO and AlphaBIOS, the 2.2.15 kernel will always hang there on reboot
unless I power-cycle the machine.
