We have posted the i386.rpm, src.rpm, and patches on our WWW site at
http://www.affinity-systems.ab.ca/software/ for sendmail-8.9.3-1.  These
should work on Red Hat 5.0, 5.1, and 5.2 but were compiled under a relatively
stock Red Hat 5.2 system and Kernel 2.2.1.

Please send bug reports to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Here is information on the package:
bash# rpm -qi sendmail-rhcn
Name        : sendmail-rhcn            Distribution: Red Hat Contrib|Net
Version : 8.9.3 Vendor: Affinity Systems Inc.
Release     : 1                        Build Date: Wed Feb 10 09:12:59 1999
Install date: Wed Feb 10 09:17:10 1999 Build Host: cafe.affinity-systems.ab.ca
Group : Daemons Source RPM: sendmail-rhcn-8.9.3-1.src.rpm
Size        : 2269112                  License: BSD
Packager    : Red Hat Contrib|Net <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
URL         : http://www.sendmail.org/
Summary : sendmail mail transport agent
Description :
Sendmail is a Mail Transport Agent, which is the program
that moves mail from one machine to another. Sendmail implements a
general internetwork mail routing facility, featuring aliasing and
forwarding, automatic routing to network gateways, and flexible
configuration.

If you need the ability to send and receive mail via the internet
you'll need sendmail.

cafe:bash# rpm -q --changelog sendmail-rhcn
* Wed Feb 10 1999 James Bourne <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

- - updated to sendmail 8.9.3
- - updated sendmail.cf and asi-redhat.mc to use newer m4 files

* Tue Jan 12 1999 James Bourne <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

- - added Obsoletes line to .spec header
- - changed install to make files install as none root user if root doesn't do
the build (for SRPM), and added attr flags to files section for rhcn

* Thu Jan 07 1999 James Bourne <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

- - backed out the apache accept patch as accept is handled differently and
(according to the release info) this should fix the DOS attack resulting for
sendmail sleeping for 5 seconds after a bad accept. This release includes
the patch for mime buffer overflows as well. If it still causes problems
due to the accept handling we will merge the apache accept patch back in.

- - changed install script of spec file to create /var/spool/mqueue and
..hoststat with mail ownerships and mode 700. This is wanted and needed if
people set the RunAsUser in sendmail.cf to the default mail user (mail
8:12) which is much safer then running sendmail as user root. This should
help with certain security concerns.

- - modified the default sendmail.cf to set RunAsUser to mail. Change this if
needed to a different UID. Also changed DefaultUser to an equal number, now
it is 8:12 (these are redhat 5.1 default uid/gid for user mail).

- - dropped MaxDaemonChildren down to 40 in the default sendmail.cf. This
should help wee ppp sites like ours as they may not be able to handle 80
children that easily... Bump this value up in the file
/usr/doc/sendmail-8.X.X/cf/cf/asi-redhat.mc and remake with M4 to change it.

- - mail spool directory (/var/spool/mail) changed to root.root mode 1777.
This is for local delivery with procmail, and mail pickup with some pop
servers such as cucipop. In these cases, the spool file is locked, copied
to a lock file (for pop), and then read etc all the while running as that
user instead of a privledged account. Mail boxes can then be kept mode 600.

- - changed ownership of /etc/aliases to be mail mode 644 as to do
AutoRebuilds this file must be writable by the sendmail daemon running as
user mail.

- - tightened permissions on suid files /usr/libexec/mail.local and
/usr/sbin/sendmail to 4511

* Tue Jan 05 1999 James Bourne <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

- - Updated to sendmail-8.9.2 and rebuilt RPM.

* Mon Nov 16 1998 James Bourne <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

- - Applied sendmail-8.9.1a patch which fixes mime buffer overflows in some
        mail clients

Jim

Contact: John Goerzen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Location: 7:00/7:30 PM in 260 Jabara Hall at Wichita State (details below)
          This event is free and open to the public. Please forward this
          message to anyone you feel may be interested in attending.

IN THIS BULLETIN
================

 * Initing Linux (ACLUG meeting)
 * New meeting schedule (PLEASE READ! We now have a Monday/Tuesday system)
 * Other business and discussions
 * Upcoming events
 * Upcoming Free Linux Install
 * When to arrive: Meeting format
 * How to find us: Location information and links to maps
 * Contacts, Background information on ACLUG, and miscellaneous

Initing Linux
=============

One of the most powerful things about Linux is the startup and shutdown
system. Linux gives you fine-grained control of what programs are started
when the system is booted, how they're started, when they're started, and
how they're configured. Similarly, this ability to control extends into the
shutdown process.

We'll start at the basic ideas of the Linux bootup and shutdown processes,
and then explain the concepts in detail, and finally show how to modify
config files and directories to make things behave like you want them to.

(The meeting name comes from the name of the Linux startup program, called
"init")

Other Business
==============

Nothing specific is on the agenda, since this meeting is only one week after
the previous one. However, expect a brief update about the upcoming Free
Linux Install, and perhaps one or two other small items. Shouldn't take
more than 2 or 3 minutes.

NEW MEETING SCHEDULE
====================

Pursuant to decisions made on 25 January 1999 and 9 February 1999, ACLUG
meetings are now scheduled as follows:

 * The first MONDAY of each month, at 7:00/7:30 PM; and
 * The third TUESDAY of each month, at 7:00/7:30 PM.

Meetings will be held in 260 Jabara Hall on the campus of Wichita State
University as always. Details on the event schedule and upcoming events can
be found at http://www.aclug.org/events/; maps can be found at
http://www.aclug.org/maps/.

FUTURE ACLUG EVENTS
===================

Please send suggestions for future topics to [EMAIL PROTECTED] or mention
them at the meeting. Consider this the ACLUG suggestion box! :-)

I prefer to not pick topics. I'd rather have people let me know what they'd
like to hear discussed at the meeting.

ACLUG events scheduled in the immediate future include:

 * ACLUG meeting, TUESDAY, February 16, 1999
 * ACLUG FREE Linux Install, SATURDAY, February 27, 1999
 * ACLUG meeting, MONDAY, March 1, 1999
 * ACLUG meeting, TUESDAY, March 16, 1999

UPCOMING FREE LINUX INSTALL
===========================

This will be held on Saturday, February 27. For those of you not familiar
with it, the basic idea is that anyone is invited to bring in their computer
(with monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc.) and ACLUG people will install and
configure Linux on it for free. There are a few prerequisites and we ask
that you preregister for this event so appropriate space can be arranged
beforehand. Details will be announced shortly.

For your planning, you may arrive anytime between noon and 5 PM on the 27th,
but earlier times are better. Plan to stay at least two hours. We like to
show you what we're doing as things are installed, so if you can stay while
things are being done, that's preferable. Hopefully ample close parking
will be available on the Saturday, but we can try to provide a cart or two
for you to use when bringing in heavy equipment; Jabara Hall does have ramps
and elevators, so there should be no problem here.

MEETING FORMAT REMINDER
=======================

One issue that has been somewhat troublesome is making presentations
interesting and useful for people with a wide range of Linux experiences.
We want our meetings to be useful for as many people as possible, so our
plan is this: For those of you that are starting out with Linux, or just
interested in what Linux can do, please feel free to join us at 7:00 PM on
each meeting date (1st Monday and 3rd Tuesday of each month). We'll cover
some basics about the evening's topic or Linux in general, or have an
informal Q&A time, depdending on what the people present prefer. Also, if
you have any Linux questions (beginning or advanced), we'd like to get to
them between 7 and 7:30 so that the evening doesn't get too late for those
that have to work or go to class in the morning.

Our regular presentation will begin at 7:30 as it always has. Of course, if
you can make it at 7, you're encouraged to stay for the whole program. You
are welcome to arrive at either 7 or 7:30.

LOCATION & MAPS
===============

We will hold the this event in the Computer Science Department in
Jabara Hall on the main east campus of Wichita State University.
ACLUG has assembled some driving instructions on the Web at
http://www.aclug.org/maps/. We will be located on the second floor of
Jabara Hall. We expect to be in room 260, but we'll be sure to post
signs if we need to relocate elsewhere. You'll be able to find a sign
on the wall in front of the 2nd floor elevator when you arrive.

Room 260 is almost directly in front of you as you exit the second-floor
elevator.

About the Air Capital Linux Users Group
- ---------------------------------------

ACLUG was created in early 1998 as a group to help people discover
better ways to take advantage of modern computing through the use of
Linux. All ACLUG events are free; we have hosted two free Linux
installation events, during which Linux was installed on dozens of
computers for no charge. We would like to show the benefits of Unix
operating systems such as Linux to as many people as possible. ACLUG
members range from people just starting out with computers and Linux
to those that have written parts of the Linux system or are doing
computer research under the Linux platform.

About Linux
- -----------
Linux is a modern, fully 32- and 64-bit operating system that runs on
a wide variety of hardware. Its most popular use is on PC-style
hardware, where Linux can completely replace Windows 95, Windows 98,
or NT. Linux sports astounding reliability, power, flexibility,
scalibility, and networking. Linux is the most popular OS for
Internet servers, beating NT. Linux also works on less-expensive
computers than NT.

Linux is developed by a worldwide team of programmers: individuals,
companies, and universities using the Internet. All source code is
available, allowing peer review -- which is important for an operating
system.

ACLUG would like to show you the benefits of Linux for home and
business use. Feel free to attend one of our meetings or ask
questions about Linux at [EMAIL PROTECTED] You may also examine the
archives of previous discussions on our discussion lists at
http://www.complete.org/mailinglists/archives/ or join the list;
instructions for doing so are at http://www.aclug.org/mailinglists/.
Announcements for upcoming ACLUG meetings and events will always be sent
first to the aclug-announce mailing lists.

From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: TclFont -- A stroke font in TCL
Date: Sun, 14 Feb 1999 01:59:41 GMT
Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

- ------------------------------------------------------------------------
CurveSoft is pleased to announce the release of TclFont under the terms
and conditions of the GNU General Public License as published by the
Free Software Foundation. Get it from:

    http://www.curvesoft.com/tools.html

TclFont is technology for creation, display and printing of scalable
_stroke_ fonts defined as TCL scripts. It consists of 4 parts:
(a) A sample stroke font named 'Pencil' where each glyph is defined by
    a small TCL procedure. Two types of strokes are currently supported:
    straight lines and conic curves. Pencil includes almost all the
    ISO-8859 glyphs with the exception of a couple of ligatures. The
    design is Courier-like though variable width.
(b) A set of C++ files which allow stroke fonts to be arbitrarily scaled
    and displayed on the screen. The pen diameter can also be varied.
(c) A set of TCL procedures for creating a downloadable scalable
    PostScript Type 3 font from a stroke font (currently this requires
    at least a Level 2 RIP since it uses the 'strokeadjust' operator to
    keep stroke widths uniform).
(d) A set of TCL procedures for a large size display of single glyphs
    (this is useful when creating new glyphs).

TclFont should be regarded as experimental since it has received only
limited testing. The C++ code should be 64-bit clean since it has been
tested on Linux-Alpha.

TclFont, as currently implemented, uses strokes of uniform width and
so is not as flexible as outline fonts such as PS Type 1 or TrueType
when it comes to shape definition (for example, flaring serifs or stems
are not possible). Anti-aliasing is not yet implemented.

However, it has a number of compensating advantages:

- -- The quality of bitmaps generated by the scaler, though not as good as
   hand-tuned ones, is reasonable even down to screen resolutions
   despite the fact that no hints are used. The two most significant
   uses of hints in outline fonts are to ensure uniformity of character
   heights and stem widths at low resolutions. These are automatic in
   TclFont. By contrast, many vendors of hinted outline fonts supply
   hand tuned bitmaps for specific sizes for screen fonts since even
   with hints, the quality of bitmaps generated by outline font scalers
   is poor at screen resolutions.

- -- The font itself is implemented as a TCL script so users can easily
   add special purpose characters by writing a few lines of TCL; in
   addition, the full panoply of tcl commands is available. For example,
   TCL procs can be used to ensure that parts of characters that should
   be identical are in fact so (this is similar to the /Subrs array in
   the Private dictionary of a PS Type 1 font).

- -- Many of the features of "Multiple Master" fonts are available. For
   example,
   (a) using a larger stroke width (i.e. pen diameter) yields a bolder
       font;
   (b) scaling the font horizontally yields a wider font; with outline
       fonts, this causes a potential problem since vertical
       stems are thickened but horizontal stems have the same thickness
       when the font is scaled horizontally. In TclFont, the stroke
       width is independent of the font scale factors.
   (c) changing font characteristics such as x-height, cap-height etc.
       is as simple as changing a few TCL variables.
   (d) common features such as serif lengths can also be varied easily
       by changing TCL variables, if the font is designed with this
       capability in mind.

- -- the glyph codes are 32-bit values, so a font can contain a very
