Linux Mall Announcement:
LONE-TAR Date: 03/22/99
Archive and restore utility
You use Linux because it is the most stable operating system for your
business, but no one can predict when an equipment failure might occur. As
any good sysadmin knows, backups are not just a good idea - they're crucial.
Lone Star Software has been in the UNIX data backup and recovery business
for 20 years. They've developed LONE-TAR, a full featured back up and
restore utility that includes bit-level verification and double-buffering
for increased speed. LONE-TAR also offers "CRONY" - a complete interface to
all of your cron jobs, especially unattended backups.
LONE-TAR is a fully menu driven data archiving and recovery utility that
employs a compression algorithm that guarantees doubling the capacity of
your archive media. LONE-TAR utilizes Master and Incremental strategy to
ensure that all your system data is rapidly available in case of a system
failure. LONE-TAR backs up everything including device files, empty
directories, links, symbolic links, Virtual Files and NFS mounted file
systems.
This is just a small sample of the features included with LONE-TAR. For a
list of all the features of LONE-TAR visit Linux Mall's product page.

Subject: OpenSched 0.0.4 - project management program
Date: Wed, 24 Mar 1999 22:13:03 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
OpenSched is a project management program released under GPL.
It reads a project description file, containing information
about tasks and resources. It assigns tasks to resources and
schedules them to happen during the project. Various reports
show individual and group workload, task schedules, GANTT
charts, etc. OpenSched addresses the same needs as MS-Project,
but using a completely different approach (text input file,
automatic scheduling, different report formats, etc.).
OpenSched is currently known to work on Linux and Solaris, and
should be easy to port to other environments that support an
ANSI-C compiler and LaTeX.
Version 0.0.4 includes some bug fixes, GANTT chart enhancements,
a man page, and the ability to adjust schedules based on ongoing
progress during a project.

I have put together a slightly more informative iMac Linux site
available at :
http://w3.one.net/~johnb/imaclinux/
The site contains HOWTOs for both LinuxPPC R4 and pre-R5 as
well as a quick howto on running Xwindows in a higher colour
depth than 8bpp. I've also made some useful files available
for download via local ftp.
Requests for additional howtos and contributions would be
more than welcomed. I'm currently working on a few more
howtos as I add to my own iMac LinuxPPC install.

Subject: Updated Linux Newbie Administrator Guide ver.0.21
Date: Wed, 24 Mar 1999 21:53:40 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Hi. Our family project: "The Linux Newbie Administrator Guide" has
been significantly updated again. The current version is 0.21. Since
the last public announcement, the contents have been roughly doubled,
scores of improvement made and typos corrected. More additions and
improvements are in progress.
The Linux Newbie Administrator Guide contains simple (hopefully) and
minimalistic answers to some problems that a Linux newbie might
encounter while setting up, using, and administrating his/her home
machine or home network.
Newbie administrators are welcome to visit:
http://www.magma.ca/~bklimas/
We also received feedback suggesting that our FAQ part may be of
interest to "not-so-newbie" home Linux users too:
http://www.magma.ca/~bklimas/FAQ.htm
Comments, contributions, links, mirrors, and distributors are
greatly appreciated!
Best regards,
Stan Klimas, Deep River, Ontario
