ivtools-0.7.5 is now available from http://www.vectaport.com/ivtools/.
This release features an improved configure script (no longer any need
to supply CPU, PWD, XCONFIGDIR, or GPLUSPLUSINCLUDEDIR make
variables), automatic re-centering of rasters read from URLs, and full
animation of direct-manipulation graphic transformations
(move/scale/stretch/rotate).
ivtools is a collection of extendable drawing editors and spatial data
servers. It is also a layered application framework with support for
vector and raster graphics, multi-view document editing, networking,
scripting, components, and serialization. An alternate to Java Swing
or MFC for the Unix/X11/C++ programmer.
Documentation available online (http://www.vectaport.com/ivtools/doc/)
as well as downloadable in a tar file of HTML and other files, all
copyrighted identical to ivtools (X11 style):

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
The Introductory Edition of IBM's techexplorer Hypermedia
Browser Version 2.5 Preview Release 1 is now available for
Windows 95/98/NT and ... Linux on Intel!
The Introductory Edition is a viewer for a large subset of
TeX, LaTeX, and AMS-LaTeX, as well as MathML, the Mathematical
Markup Language from the W3C.
New in Version 2.5 PR 1 is support for almost all of the
content tags for MathML. More features from LaTeX have also
been added, including most of the picture environment.
For more details and the no-charge downloads, see
http://www.software.ibm.com/techexplorer/.
Later preview releases will include versions for the other
platforms supported in techexplorer 2.0. Version 2.5 of the
Professional Edition will also be available at a later
date.
Please send all questions to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Linux notes:
This version of techexplorer has been tested with RedHat 5.1 and 5.2.
It has been found to run reliably on other Linux installations; however,
it has not been thoroughly tested on platforms other than RedHat 5.1
and 5.2. The preview release is known to have problems on the IBM
ThinkPad
770.
The following shared libraries must be present:
libXp.so.6, libXi.so.6, libXext.so.6, libXt.so.6, libX11.so.6,
libSM.so.6, libICE.so.6, libm.so.6, libc.so.6, /lib/ld-linux.so.2.
This plug-in will work only for Linux versions of the Netscape
Navigator
or Netscape Communicator clients, version 4.0 or greater. This plug-in
may
not work with pre-release (e.g. "beta" or "preview release") versions of
the Netscape Navigator.

We are trying to form a Linux users group for the faculty/staff/students
of Texas A&M University and Linux enthusiasts in the local Bryan/College
Station area.
Following is the announcement on [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
Non-Virtual Linux User's Group forming!
Have you ever wondered what people who run Linux look like? Do
they really all look like Leo and Kate? Or are they more like
Scully and Mulder? Does Buffy really run Linux when she's not
dispatching the undead? Do they speak in tongues?
This may be a great opportunity to find out!
Perhaps you would just like to get out for a night away from the
computer and interact with other carbon-based life forms!
There will be a meeting of the Linux User's group at 6:30 pm
Wednesday, April 7th, 1999 at the Golden Corral Restaurant at
700 East University Drive, College Station, Texas. We have the
meeting room at the rear reserved until 9:00 pm.
Wednesday Nights are Steak and Shrimp day at the Golden Buffet.
Doc Cearley, the manager, has agreed to "sweeten the deal" by
adding free drinks to the buffet for the Linux User Group
members. Simply tell them you are with the Linux User's Group
as you order.

ACLUG meeting
=============
Today, networking is tremendously important. Businesses depend on
reliable and powerful networks for their very existance. People enjoy
surfing the Internet or setting up a mini LAN at home. Networking can
also be a confusing topic.
So, at our April 5 meeting, we will start from the basics -- why we
have networking, how it works, different types of network
communication, and the like. This type of knowledge will help
everything else make a lot more sense.
Then, we will discuss how leverage Linux for these things, with an eye
on specific network services such as e-mail, web, and the like.
For those of you that have been with ACLUG for a long time, you'll
recall that we have discussed networking before. We'll be approaching
it from a significantly different angle on April 5, so you should be
able to find some new material at this meeting.
Other Business
==============
At this point, there is one thing:
* Suggestion for future topics
MEETING SCHEDULE
================
Pursuant to decisions made on 25 January 1999 and 9 February 1999, ACLUG
meetings are now scheduled as follows:
* The first MONDAY of each month, at 7:00/7:30 PM; and
* The third TUESDAY of each month, at 7:00/7:30 PM.
Meetings will be held in 260 Jabara Hall on the campus of Wichita State
University as always. Details on the event schedule and upcoming events can
be found at http://www.aclug.org/events/; maps can be found at
http://www.aclug.org/maps/.
FUTURE ACLUG EVENTS
===================
Please send suggestions for future topics to [EMAIL PROTECTED] or mention
them at the meeting. Consider this the ACLUG suggestion box! :-)
I prefer to not pick topics. I'd rather have people let me know what they'd
like to hear discussed at the meeting.
ACLUG events tentatively scheduled in the immediate future include:
* ACLUG meeting, TUESDAY, April 20, 1999
MEETING FORMAT REMINDER
=======================
One issue that has been somewhat troublesome is making presentations
interesting and useful for people with a wide range of Linux experiences.
We want our meetings to be useful for as many people as possible, so our
plan is this: For those of you that are starting out with Linux, or just
interested in what Linux can do, please feel free to join us at 7:00 PM on
each meeting date (1st Monday and 3rd Tuesday of each month). We'll cover
some basics about the evening's topic or Linux in general, or have an
informal Q&A time, depdending on what the people present prefer. Also, if
you have any Linux questions (beginning or advanced), we'd like to get to
them between 7 and 7:30 so that the evening doesn't get too late for those
that have to work or go to class in the morning.
Our regular presentation will begin at 7:30 as it always has. Of course, if
you can make it at 7, you're encouraged to stay for the whole program. You
are welcome to arrive at either 7 or 7:30.
LOCATION & MAPS
===============
We will hold the this event in the Computer Science Department in
Jabara Hall on the main east campus of Wichita State University.
ACLUG has assembled some driving instructions on the Web at
http://www.aclug.org/maps/. We will be located on the second floor of
Jabara Hall. We expect to be in room 260, but we'll be sure to post
signs if we need to relocate elsewhere. You'll be able to find a sign
on the wall in front of the 2nd floor elevator when you arrive.
Room 260 is almost directly in front of you as you exit the second-floor
elevator.

About the Air Capital Linux Users Group
- ---------------------------------------
ACLUG was created in early 1998 as a group to help people discover
better ways to take advantage of modern computing through the use of
Linux. All ACLUG events are free; we have hosted two free Linux
installation events, during which Linux was installed on dozens of
computers for no charge. We would like to show the benefits of Unix
operating systems such as Linux to as many people as possible. ACLUG
members range from people just starting out with computers and Linux
to those that have written parts of the Linux system or are doing
computer research under the Linux platform.
About Linux
- -----------
Linux is a modern, fully 32- and 64-bit operating system that runs on
a wide variety of hardware. Its most popular use is on PC-style
hardware, where Linux can completely replace Windows 95, Windows 98,
or NT. Linux sports astounding reliability, power, flexibility,
scalibility, and networking. Linux is the most popular OS for
Internet servers, beating NT. Linux also works on less-expensive
computers than NT.
Linux is developed by a worldwide team of programmers: individuals,
companies, and universities using the Internet. All source code is
available, allowing peer review -- which is important for an operating
system.
ACLUG would like to show you the benefits of Linux for home and
business use. Feel free to attend one of our meetings or ask
questions about Linux at [EMAIL PROTECTED] You may also examine the
archives of previous discussions on our discussion lists at
http://www.complete.org/mailinglists/archives/ or join the list;
instructions for doing so are at http://www.aclug.org/mailinglists/.
Announcements for upcoming ACLUG meetings and events will always be sent
first to the aclug-announce mailing lists.

Subject: COMMERCIAL: Debian GNU/Linux 2.1 CD-ROMs
Date: Sun, 28 Mar 1999 11:59:52 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
New from Linux Central
http://linuxcentral.com
Debian GNU/Linux 2.1 on CD-ROM
Debian 2.1, which is also known as ``slink'', is now available.
The following architectures are supported in Debian 2.1:
o Intel x86 o SPARC
o Alpha o Motorola 680x0
WHAT'S NEW:
The number of distributed packages in the main distribution is now
around 2250. As always, the distribution is growing around 50%
per release; it shows no sign of slowing.
New application versions are included, fixes for bugs, etc. apt is now
the officially blessed package installation tool, which is to be used
in conjunction with dpkg. apt can be used as a package acquisition
(download) method in dselect, or it can be used from the command-line as
apt-get. apt will internally model the entire state of your installed
packages, and will do its best to ensure that all package dependencies
are met at all times.
The Great X Reorganization happened at version 3.3.2.3a-2, which was a
Debian 2.1 ("slink") release.
Installation instructions, along with downloadable files, are broken out
by architecture and are available along with release notes at:
http://linuxcentral.com/products/lccd/debian-2.1/
Due to the increased number of packages, CD-ROM distributions must ship
as two CD-ROMs for each architecture. Source CD-ROMs are platform
independent and available separately. This has necessitated an upgrade
of the installation tools, in order to deal with multiple CD-ROMs.
More details can be found at:
