For Immediate Release
Linux Press Announces New Series Of Linux Reference Books

Volume 1 Addresses Needs Of Both Seasoned Linux Pros And Beginners

PENNGROVE, CA (April 26, 1999) - Linux Press today unveiled plans to
introduce a series of Linux titles during 1999. First in the series, Linux
Volume 1: ac to zcat, the basics, is written by Dale Scheetz, a member of
the Debian Linux development team, and is based on the popular Coherent
Manual. Linux Volume 1: ac to zcat, the basics is designed to appeal to both
new and power users of Linux. The first part of the book features tutorials
explaining common utilities found in Linux, walking the reader through a
variety of useful tools, such as awk, sed, shells, and emacs. With a wide
array of examples, the user can quickly and easily learn and apply utilities
included with all the latest Linux distributions.

The second part of Linux Volume1: ac to zcat - the basics is the Lexicon.
This section comprises several articles that define and discuss Linux
concepts. Arranged alphabetically, these articles provide an in-depth yet
easily accessible source of information on specific topics, such as apropos,
crontab, emacs, ifconfig, lex, patch, mke2fs, nroff, route, standard error
and whereis.

Linux Press President Randy Just addresses the timeliness of Linux Volume1:
ac to zcat - the basics:

"Linux is a rapidly growing operating system with over 7 million users
worldwide. The rate of growth is such that this quickly evolving software
outdistances available documentation. Our new series of Linux books has
been designed to provide users with key skills to effectively use Linux.
With Linux Volume1: ac to zcat - the basics, we started with the immensely
readable Coherent Manual and adapted it to address the needs of today's
Linux user. With over 100,000 copies of the Coherent Manual in users'
hands , Linux Volume 1: ac to zcat should garner instant recognition from
thousands of users for its quality of material."

Linux Volume 1: ac to zcat is a compact yet dense 623-page softcover book
and is available direct from the publisher or through major distributors and
bookstores.

Hallo,

we have set up a Primax for Linux mailing list.
If you are interested in things happening you can subscribe to this list by
simply mailing to [EMAIL PROTECTED] ; The list itself can be
reached under [EMAIL PROTECTED]

If youre interested in a Linux driver for your Primax Colorado Direct scanner
or in supporting us, please join this list, because wed like to find out how
many large the demand for such a driver is. Knowing this we may be able to
convince Primax to write such a driver or give the specs to us.

Theres currently an Alpha version which is based on information found out by
reverse engeneering the Win95 driver. This Alpha version can be found at
http://thor.prohosting.com/~chrordig/Primax/ and is reported to work with the
Primax Colorado Direct, Network MM100 and Genius Colorpage-Vivid+ scanners.

Thank you for supporting us.

                ---------------------------------

Treeps is a X/Motif program for Unix/Linux that is designed to make
monitoring and interacting with the running programs on your system easy
and intuative. A "real time" tree view shows the relationships between the
processes and is color coded to provide easy interpretation of various
values. The process tree displays any combination of users/groups and
can be used to drill down into process details and then extract key
fields for continous monitoring. A number of predefined actions can be
performed on processes, such as signaling(killing) or viewing the man
page. Various control mechanisms can be used to fine tune the display
and adjust sampling rates etc. There are also a large number of other
features, please visit the web site for more details.

No need to leave your desk!!! Just click here to find out more:
http://www.talarian.com/mqnwebcast

Don't miss the chance to participate in a live web broadcast on how
to quickly build and deploy real-time distributed systems.

Messaging middleware has become a de-facto standard as the
underlying infrastructure for integrating both customized and
packaged applications requiring real-time response. This live
broadcast is aimed at those involved in building revenue-critical
applications requiring 24x7 operation. Examples of such applications
include:

        - Financial trading, straight-through processing
        - Network management, call centers
        - E-Commerce
        - Command and control, integration and test
        - Traffic control
        - Systems management
        - Just-in-time manufacturing
        - Retail P.O.S.

The two most dominant messaging paradigms are queuing and
publish-subscribe. In this session, I will describe how
publish-subscribe can be combined with message queuing to provide
organizations a high-speed, reliable software backbone for achieving
a zero-latency enterprise.

Join me, Tom Laffey, Talarian founder and CTO live from our Worldwide
Headquarters for my educational session and interactive discussion on:

Queuing and Publish-Subscribe: How the Twain Shall Meet

         2:00 - 2:45 EST

Simply click here to register and view the event
http://www.talarian.com/webcast

As part of our discussion, I will also be announcing an exciting new
product, MQexpress. MQexpress allows a developer to combine the
transactional integrity, store-and-forward capabilities of queuing
with the real-time performance and scalability of publish-subscribe.
MQexpress also interoperates seamlessly with IBM's MQSeries product,
allowing messages to be put and retrieved directly from MQSeries
queues.

* Learn how to quickly build and deploy distributed application
requiring real-time performance and high reliability
* Learn how to build large, scalable systems by combining
        publish-subscribe with message queuing
* Learn how to build and deploy large queue-based applications
        without configuration and maintenance nightmares
* Learn how to achieve real-time, one-to-many message
        distribution to/from IBM's MQSeries queues

From: Winfried Truemper <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Subject: Major rewrite of the CD-Writing HOWTO
Date: Sun, 2 May 1999 11:02:24 GMT
Reply-To: Winfried Truemper <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

The copy of the CD-Writing HOWTO on metalab.unc.edu is hopelessly
out of sync with the original. The problem is being worked on. In
the meantime, please fetch the CD-Writing HOWTO from one of these
addresses:
        http://www.guug.de/~winni/linux/cdr/ (online version)
        ftp://www.guug.de/pub/members/truemper/cdr/ (many formats).

Large parts of the HOWTO have been rewritten over the past 16 months,
even 50% more content and still all for free. Download it today, it's
a great gift for friends, who struggle with writing CD-Rs under
proprietary operating systems.

If you maintain a page pointing to it, please take a minute to make sure
you point to the guug-address. The people who hosted me before reported,
that they still serve many redirect-requests for the old shop-address.

Regards
- -Winfried

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

VAR: A company or individual that designs and installs a turnkey, or
integrated, package of computer products and/or service, using
     several suppliers, for business customers.

                                  --UNIX: An Open Systems Dictionary.

Linux VARs that submit a listing before next Friday, May 7th, will be
listed in a full page ad to run in Linux Journal.

We're building an association of Linux VARs. Our site is at:
                 http://www.LinuxVAR.org
Our main focus is to raise awareness of the solutions implemented with
Linux by VARs. We are showcasing Linux VARs in a number of ways, including
a business listing directory, and the full page ad mentioned above.
