I wish to announce my 3D web building site is available under GPL
from this address:

http://193.63.48.71:2050/news.htm

The site lets you build you own 3D sites using VRML 2.0. It lets you
define 'houses' and 'roads' to sit on a '3D website'. The intent is to
create a simple method of site construction, but with enough variety to make
the generation of useful sites possible.

The site consists of HTML and CGI scripts (written in Perl). You should
have Apache installed. To view the sites you will also need a VRML 2.0
viewer, and it is recommended that this is associated with your Netscape
(or whatever) browser.

**** Please note, the installation is known to work on Caldera and
Red-Hat Linux. Other distributions have not been tested.

For further information please see the home page

    http://193.63.48.71:2050/

I can be contacted at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Subject: Ganymede 0.99.3 - network directory management system
Date: Thu, 24 Jun 1999 20:09:50 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

Ganymede 0.99.3 is now available for download at

 http://www.arlut.utexas.edu/gash2/

or

 ftp://ftp.arlut.utexas.edu/pub/ganymede/

Ganymede is a GPL'ed network directory management system written in
Java, providing support for team management of NIS, DNS, etc.

- --

Uuggh. I screwed up the code that handled the combination of
permissions across multiple roles and permission matrices, which broke
things horribly for everyone but supergash. On the positive side, the
bug revealed another bug that might have layed dormant for a long time
in the absence of the big bug, so two for the price of one.

I generally wouldn't pop out a new release so soon, but this
permissions bug makes it impossible to do anything real with Ganymede
unless you are just logging in with the supergash account for testing,
and it might have mightily confused anyone who actually tried to dig a
bit deep into Ganymede.

- -------------------- Changes from 0.99.2 to 0.99.3 -------------------

RELEASE DATE: June 23, 1999

1. [SERVER] Fixed value() in StringDBField.java

The value() method in StringDBField.java was improperly forcing
a permissions check, despite the fact that value() was used for
server-side code only.

This was causing a problem at transaction commit-time under certain
conditions, caused by the PermMatrix.union() bug below.

2. [SERVER] Fixed bugs in permissions system

Ugh, I had screwed up PermMatrix.union() in 0.99.2, the object->field
inheritance logic wasn't working properly.

I fixed PermMatrix.union(), simplified GanymedeSession.getPerm(), and
modified both PermEntry.union() and PermEntry.intersection() to optimize
out a lot of new PermEntry creation.

Anyone doing work with sound on Linux systems may find this of
interest...

The Audio-Quality-HOWTO version 0.0.5 has been posted to:
http://members.tripod.com/~slinkP/pw_linux/Audio-Quality-HOWTO.html

Sorry about the huge URL and the banner ads. This document will
eventually have a better home when it's a little further along.

PLEASE CONTRIBUTE! Any information relevant to the HOWTO is welcome.

The biggest question currently is:
Should the Audio-Quality-HOWTO continue to exist as a separate document,
OR should it be folded in to the existing Sound HOWTO? On the one hand,
the Sound HOWTO is well-distributed and is the obvious place for all
sound-related information. On the other hand, the Audio-Quality-HOWTO is
already getting a bit large... Opinions, please!

List of topics now covered:

 1. Reducing Cheap Soundcard Noise
       1. Software
       2. Hardware
       3. When Nothing Helps
  2. Other Sound Quality Issues
       1. Garbage In...
       2. Dropouts
  3. Notes on Full Duplex Recording
       1. multiple soundcards
       2. lockups
  4. Audio CDs
  5. Converting Soundfiles
  6. Testing Your Soundcard
  7. Shopping for Cheap Soundcards
       1. Drivers

Subject: ODARS ISP Server 3.1 - Free edition for commercial/institutional ISPs
Date: Thu, 24 Jun 1999 20:11:35 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

ODARS presents a new, interesting concept for all commercial /
institutional (corp. intranets / universities) ISPs / IPPs who
are looking for an easy way (easy both for them *and* their
clients!) to meet their clients' needs / wishes to Web publish
dynamic data resources (DB's, Web indices).

Until now, the Web publishing of dynamic data resources could
only be accomplished with enormous efforts, which had a clear
prohibiting effect. Breaking down the data in order to create
single, static HTML pages is no solution because of clumsy search
capabilities and a need for high amounts of maintenance work.
On the other hand, programming a genuine, hand-tailored database
Web publishing solution is very costly both up-front and in the
long term since it is often impossible to re-use parts of that
individual solution for new or similar projects.

As easy to use Web publishing tools, infoware's Web publishing
applications for the desktop, ODARS2web Publisher and ODARS4Search
Publisher (for Windows), allow the complete menu-driven setup of
full text Web database and search engine applications. These
dynamic Web applications may then be published on any Web server
with an installed ODARS ISP Server which is free to any commercial
and institutional ISP and available for most popular Web server OS
(Linux, CobaltOS, FreeBSD, Sun/Solaris etc.).

Web publishing (client side) *and* Web hosting (provider side) made
easy. For more information, please read our ODARS ISP Concept @

http://www.odars.com/

To evaluate the ODARS ISP Server for Linux, 'ftp' to

ftp://sunsite.unc.edu/pub/Linux/system/admin/isp/

and download the files

odarsisp-linux-3.1.0.tar.gz
odarsisp-linux-3.1.0.lsm

or, if you need versions for CobaltOS or FreeBSD, goto

http://www.odars.com/english/software/isp-server/download

Again: Using ODARS ISP Server is FREE OF CHARGE for commercial and/or
institutional ISPs / IPPs (with no strings attached) !

For information on ODARS desktop applications (for generating and up-
loading Web DB's and Web search engines) in the US, check out

http://www.techarts.com/

Thanks for your attention and patience.

Best Regards,

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

This year's Open Source Software Convention will be in Monterey,
California, from August 21st through 24th. Six distinct conferences
covering Linux, Perl, Apache, Python, Tcl/Tk and sendmail, plus an
Open Source business track, are all included in one admission
price. You can immerse yourself in a single conference for maximum
exposure to one technology, or just chose the presentations that
benefit you the most.

The now-famous pizza and beer bashes were a highlight of last August's
Perl Conference 2.0. Grab a beer and rub elbows with open source
luminaries and be part of this year's historic gathering. There'll be
keynotes, tutorials, as well as planned and spontaneous birds-of-a-feather
sessions every night where you can debate licensing, support, and various
business models (and share tips and code) until dawn.

Register by July 15 and you'll get a T-shirt.
But since you can't eat shirts, we're also offering up to
$200 off your registration fees. But hurry; last year, there were
waiting lists for many of the tutorials and space
is limited.

From: Arturo Tena <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Subject: cole 1.0.0 - Access raw stream data from Microsoft' Structured Storage
Date: Thu, 24 Jun 1999 19:35:45 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

cole is a free C OLE library. It is released under GPL to help more
software be released as free software. cole can handle Microsoft OLE's
Structured Storage and Compound Files. Such formats are used in the
files generated by the Microsoft suite for offices.

cole doesn't know about internal structure of a stream, it only reads
the raw data. You can use then the Microsoft's documentation available
at http://msdn.microsoft.com or the information available at
http://www.wotsit.org to read that structure.

A web page is in:
<http://arturo.directmail.org/filtersweb/>

This version is in:
<http://arturo.directmail.org/filters/archive/cole-1.0.0.tar.gz>

Changes from cole 0.1.0 to cole 1.0.0:
User level:
+ Autoconf-ified (now cole have configure script).
+ Automake-ified (now Makefile have standard targets).
+ Objects archived now in a static library: libcole.a.
+ Can compile a dynamic library.
+ Check endianess of machine.
+ Fix some bugs when reading damaged files.
+ Added --enable-cole-verbose option.
+ Added --enable-osf-align-check (thanks to Bernhard Reiter).
+ A cole.spec file to make a RPM package and a cole.lsm to MetaLab
  archive.
+ Documentation written.
Inside code:
+ Added some macros and functions in support.h
+ Change name from test to test_exitf define.
+ Create a new test and test_call_exitf define.
+ Rename max function to max3 (preparing to compile in Borland C).
+ fil_swriteU8 disappeared.
+ Clean up some files.

This will be the last version of cole 1.x series (although a serious bug
were found). cole 2.x is being writting from the begining, 2.x API is
modeled after stdio.h ANSI C calls, and it will be easier to use.
