saw a need in the Open Source Community for user-friendly documentation
for Open Source software and decided to try to fulfil that need.
The OSWG is open to writers and editors of all skill levels. Anyone with
a desire to assist Open Source projects by supplying or improving
documentation is welcome to join. Any project with an Open Source
license looking for help with documentation is encouraged to contact the
OSWG.
The Open Source Writers Group is open to any non-commercial Open Source
project, and is not limited to any one operating system. Anyone
interested in working with the OSWG should contact Deb Richardson with

Subject: water screensaver 0.10
Date: Mon, 28 Jun 1999 20:53:38 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
'Water' is a new screensaver module for X, available at the following
URLs:
http://las1.ninds.nih.gov/software.html
ftp://las1.ninds.nih.gov/pub/unix/water.tar.gz (source code)
ftp://las1.ninds.nih.gov/pub/unix/water.gz (glibc precompiled version)
'water' simulates the effect of raindrops landing on the screen and
refractively distorting the screen contents underneath. As the drops
pile up, they also distort each other, leading to interesting effects.
Options:
cement 1 - raindrops land on a gray cement pattern instead of the
background.
red | green | blue 1 - adds a slight tint to the drops. As they pile
up, the color becomes more saturated.
gray 1 - raindrops land on gray background instead of the screen
(prevents your xterms from getting wet).
Requirements:
Requires X, a 16-bit or higher display, and xscreensaver (from
http://www.jwz.org/xscreensaver). Xscreensaver source and xpm
needed to compile.

| Eridani Star System announces: |
`--------------------------------'
Eridani CDROM with Red Hat 6.0 -----> UKP 3.00 each.
Linux-Mandrake 6.0 -----------------> UKP 3.00 each.
Debian GNU/Linux 2.1 2CDROM set ----> UKP 5.00 per set.
Eridani CDROM with Red Hat 5.2 -----> UKP 3.00 each.
Red Hat Powertools 5.2 -------------> UKP 3.00 each.
Linux-Mandrake 5.3 -----------------> UKP 3.00 each.
The install CDROMs include an El Torito boot record, which, on supported
hardware make them bootable.
The Red Hat 6.0 CDs are made to order, and as such, will have all the Red
Hat updates to that time on the CD. Rather than having them in a separate
updates directory, we have opted to make them part of the install, so you
automatically have an up-to-date Linux system.
A large amount of extra software has been included on the CDROM, including
Corel WordPerfect (downloadable version) and Sun JDK 1.1.7 (for the
programmers out there). Also now included are xawtv and alevt (for bttv-based
TV cards), VNC and SSH 1.2.27.
A second CD is available, which contains all the source code. Red Hat
Linux is just too big now to have all the binaries and sources on the one
CD. This CD is also available, also for UKP 3.00.
The Debian CD set is the Official Debian GNU/Linux 2.1 (slink) 2CD
distribution.
The Mandrake CDs are based on the official ISOs. However, since the
official ISO doesn't appear to be bootable, we've remade it so it does
boot.
For more information, and how to order, please visit the web page at:
http://www.amush.cx/linux/
International orders accepted, but due to the cost of bank charges and
international mail, the prices will be slightly higher.
Sorry, we cannot accept credit cards. Cash (Pounds sterling preferred!)
and cheques drawn on a UK bank. International bank transfers accepted,
however subject to a UKP 2.00 charge due to bank charges. There is a
UKP 1.50 charge for postage and packaging within the UK, variable for
international customers.

Subject: Common UNIX Printing System 1.0 BETA 4
Date: Mon, 28 Jun 1999 20:35:53 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
The fourth public beta release of the Common UNIX Printing System
("CUPS") is now available for download from the CUPS web site
at:
http://www.cups.org
Binaries for several platforms are also available!
The Common UNIX Printing System provides a portable printing
layer for UNIX operating systems. It has been developed by Easy
Software Products to promote a standard printing solution for
all UNIX vendors and users. CUPS provides the System V and
Berkeley command-line interfaces.
CUPS uses the Internet Printing Protocol (IETF-IPP) as the basis
for managing print jobs and queues. The Line Printer Daemon
(LPD, RFC1179), Server Message Block (SMB), and AppSocket
protocols are also supported with reduced functionality.
CUPS adds network printer browsing and PostScript Printer
Description ("PPD")-based printing options to support real world
applications under UNIX.
CUPS also includes a customized version of GNU GhostScript
(currently based off GNU GhostScript 4.03) and an image file RIP
that can be used to support non-PostScript printers.
Sample drivers are provided for HP DeskJet and LaserJet
printers. Drivers for over 1200 printers are available in our
ESP Print software.
CUPS is licensed under the GNU General Public License. Please
contact Easy Software Products for commercial support and
"binary distribution" rights.
