                 RRR Sorority Division presents

                              PIMPPA

Perverse and Infernal Manner of Porn Preserving Arrangement

                        v0.1.1 / 02.Jul.1999

1. Legal junk
- -------------
Released under GNU general public license version 2.

2. What is this anyway
- ----------------------
PIMPPA is a hoarding system for the true file connoisseur with
fast connections and a big flow of data, too large to handle
manually. Shall we say, hundreths of files on daily basis,
totalling to over tens of thousands of files in the long
run.

PIMPPA is suited for all types of files, but it has been
designed with PORN in mind. ;)

What PIMPPA does, it keeps record of your stuff in an MySQL
database, giving you quick and easy command line interfaces
for file access and backup operations.

PIMPPA includes automatic tools for newsgroup leeching, decoding
and duplicate checking. Files downloaded from newsgroups will
be automatically deposited to correct directories, if known.

3. Requirements
- ---------------
    - Linux 2.x.x
    - MySQL server compiled and running. Atleast v3.22.x will do.
You can get it free for noncommercial use from "http://www.tcx.se/"
    - Suck (v4.2.1 will do) for downloading newsgroups. Should be available
      at "ftp://sunsite.unc.edu/pub/Linux/system/news/transport/"
    - Uudeview (v0.5pl13 will do) for decoding. At the moment of
      writing this, see "http://www.uni-frankfurt.de/~fp/uudeview/".

4. Features
- -----------
    - Automatic news processing with duplicate checking
     (can be used with "crond")
    - Automatic file integrity checking and transformation
    - Storage/backup util which never stores anything twice,
      designed specially for CD-R.
    - Quick criterion based stuff viewing
    - Some nifty little utilities

5. Availability
- ---------------
Source distribution is freely available from

http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Platform/4014/

6. Feedback
- ------------
Email <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>. Any bug-reports, comments and
suggestions are welcome. You can send PGP mail if you like.

NEW YORK LINUX USERS GROUP - JULY MEETING

Ed Weinberg: Technical Demonstration - How to Configure a Samba Server

Wed. 7/21/99
6-8pm
IBM Building
590 Madison Avenue (at 57th St.)
check in at lobby for badge and room number

Samba is an open source software suite that provides seamless file and
print services to Windows, SMB, and Common Internet File System clients.

>From an end-user perspective, Linux servers running Samba look exactly
like Windows NT servers. There are many well-documented cases
of the increased performance of Samba/Linux over its Microsoft equivalent.
http://www.zdnet.com/pcweek/stories/news/0,4153,387766,00.html

Ed Weinberg of Detel Inc. (www.detel.com) will go through a step-by-step
configuration of a Samba server for us and answer questions regarding
heterogeneous networks. Mr. Weinberg is a systems integrator and expert
in Linux firewalls, CGI programming, site hosting and remote network
administration.

Subject: new Send/Receive/Reply module for SIMPL project
Date: Fri, 2 Jul 1999 22:17:14 GMT
Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

The SIMPL project (www.holoweb.net/~simpl) is dedicated to bringing a
simple Send/Receive/Reply messaging scheme (first popularized by OS's
such as QNX) to the Open Source Linux community.

One of our members Sam Roberts has been working diligently over the past
few months developing a very interesting "product". It's a Linux
module which implements a very capable QNX API.

We are pleased to announce that Sam has agreed to let the SIMPL project
mirror his work. His latest tarball is now available for download (see
www.holoweb.net/~simpl). We are more than pleased to open the SIMPL
project mailing list up to persons with communications needs regarding
his work as well.

At some point we would like to see a single source stream which merges
the best from both efforts to provide a fully functional high
performance Send/Receive/Reply messaging scheme to the open source Linux
community.

        Announcement for Moon-buggy version 0.4
        =======================================

I'm proud to announce the release of Moon-buggy, version 0.4.

Moon-buggy is a simple character graphics game, where you drive some
kind of car across the moon's surface. Unfortunately there are
dangerous craters there. Fortunately your car can jump over them!

As the program's version number indicates, the program is not yet
finished. Nevertheless the code, which is already there, seems stable
and the game is playable, now.

The program is supposed to compile and run on any POSIX compliant
system which provides the curses library. But at the moment it is
only tested on GNU/Linux systems.

You may get moon-buggy via ftp from "sunsite.unc.edu". It is in the
file "/pub/Linux/games/arcade/mbuggy-0.4.tar.gz".

Hello. This is the North Bay Linux Users' Group General Meeting
Announcement. NBLUG serves the San Francisco North Bay. More information
about our group may be found at http://www.nblug.org/.

It's summer time, finally, and what does that mean?? GAMES!!! OK, well,
maybe not everyone equates computer games with Summer, but hey - I was
hurting for a way to start off this month's announcement.

This month we are very pleased and honored to have Loki Entertainment
Software. They are based in Orange County California, and their goal is to
bring gaming to Linux. They do this by contracting with game developers to
port their game to the Linux platform. Their first effort is "Civilization:
Call to Power", and they are currently working on Myth II and a few others.
Their web site can be found at http://www.lokigames.com/

Loki's president, Scott Draeker, will be stopping by to present the games,
and to talk about bringing Linux to the desktop. He will also be able to
answer technical questions you may have.

This meeting should prove to be fun and educational for all. Bring your
friends, as this meeting should appeal to the non-nerd types as well.

As usual, we will be meeting on the second Tuesday of July, which happens to
be the 13th, at the normal meeting time of 7:30PM at O'Reilly's offices in
Sebastopol. Please remember to arrive early, because tickets for the door
prizes will not be handed out after the meeting starts.

Also, look for the first NBLUG Newsletter in your email box this coming
weekend! I've got a bunch of news items to announce, and figured it was
finally time to put together a little newsletter of sorts.

Hope to see you on the 13th!
