SmIRC is an X11R6 IRC client, based on the Motif widget set. New in
version 0.70: enhanced scripting, sound support (including support for the
Enlightenment Sound Daemon), and miscellanous bug fixes. RPMs that are
statically linked with the Motif are available.

Highware releases OpenKeyServer 1.1, its fast public keys server for
storing PGP public keys.

July 15, 1999. Highware, Inc. announces the release of OpenKeyServer
1.1, its high performance server for massive storage of OpenPGP public
keys. As individuals and companies increasingly leverage the Internet
as a primary way to do business and to communicate with partners and
customers, OpenKeyServer (OKS) provides the central repository
required for exchanging public keys needed to communicate securely on
the Internet.

FREE FOR PUBLIC USE
OKS is FREE for non-commercial usages and for companies offering a free
public keys repository service.

HIGH PERFORMANCE AND AVAILABILITY SERVER
Based on a lightning fast database for rapidly retrieving and storing
public keys, OKS offers a high performance system for serving the
increasing demand to secure e-mails and files. To guarantee a
continuous and secure service, the OpenKeyServer includes a recovery
system completely restoring the database in case of system failure.
OpenKeyServer is provided with customizable modules placing OKS as a
backend of choice to offer any Intranet/Extranet PGP public key
repository service.
This extended flexibility provides OKS with the ability to be directly
queryable through client security software like PGP or SafeMail and to
run Web-based worldwide public keys servers such as the
http://www.keyserver.net server.

SCALABLE
The modular architecture of OpenKeyServer makes it the ideal solution
for serving keyrings of hundreds of public keys as well as keyrings of
hundreds of thousands ones. Composed of a single database server and a
suite of protocol specific gateways, this architecture permits OKS to
be load-balanced on several machines accross a network and to achieve
the maximum throughput required for providing a very high quality
service. This scalability feature is also extendable to the formats of
public keys supported: currently public keys complying with the
OpenPGP standard are supported, but new formats are planned.

LOW ADMINISTRATION COSTS
To reduce the administrative costs and time, an easy installation and
configuration procedure is included which permits to build an entire
system serving more than 500,000 keys in less than one hour. And in
the case where public keys servers have to be interconnected, OKS
includes the automatic SMTP synchronization mecanism used by common
PGP public keys servers in order to spread submitted public keys to
remote repositories sites.

TRY IT!
A fully functionnal evaluation distribution of the OpenKeyServer can be
FREELY downloaded at http://www.highware.com/openkeyserver. You can also
visit the OpenPGP public keys servers network at
http://www.keyserver.net to see the system in action.

PLATFORMS SUPPORTED
Sun SOLARIS 2.5, 2.5.1, 2.6, Linux Intel x86, FreeBSD Intel x86 and
Apple MacOSX.

Epos speech system announcement.

Apologies if you receive this repeatedly through multiple forums.

We would like to announce Epos, a language independent
TTS system primarily designed to serve as a research tool.
Epos is available for download under the
General Public License at
http://epos.ure.cas.cz/
including documentation and the full source code.

The present version includes configuration files
for Czech and Slovak languages only, but we are planning to
support some other languages in a medium-distant
future using the MBROLA speech synthesizer,
and we shall be glad to provide the necessary
support for preparing a rule-driven configuration
for other languages, or a speech segment inventory
compatible with one of our synthesizers.

In theory, Epos can be compiled using any C++ compiler
(e.g. a reasonably recent version of GNU C++, MS Visual C++,
Watcom C++, or Borland C++ Builder), and should run on most
UNIX-like operating systems and Windows NT (the NT port
is somewhat less stable due to still inadequate testing).
Epos speaks using the /dev/dsp device on UNIX platforms, and
it generates Microsoft RIFF wave files (.wav) under Windows NT.
Its hardware requirements are modest.

You can send any additional questions or bug reports to the
Epos developer mailing list: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
or have a look at the documentation at
http://epos.ure.cas.cz/epos.html

The Epos team

                   Version 1.2, July 1999

PCL (The Performance Counter Library) is a common interface to access
in portable way performance counters built into modern
microprocessors. PCL supports query for functionality, start and stop
of counters, and reading the current values out of the
counters. Performance counting can be done in user mode, system, and
user-or-system mode. Functions are callable from C, C++, Fortran, and
Java.

Currently, the following systems are supported:

  - SUN Solaris 2.x, Solaris 7 with UltraSPARC I,II
  - Linux 2.0.x, 2.1.x, and 2.2.x with Pentium/PPro/Pentium II/Pentium
III
  - Digital Unix with Alpha 21164, 21264
  - Cray T3E with Alpha 21164
  - SGI IRIX with R10000
  -  IBM AIX <= 4.2 with PowerPC 604e

The homepage of PCL can be found at

    http://www.fz-juelich.de/zam/PCL/

were you can find the source and a detailled description of PCL
including a description of performance counters on various
microprocessors.

Rough overview of changes from version 1.1:
- - The full PCL package is now free software with a BSD-style copyright.

   See file "DISCLAIMER" for details.
- - slightly modified interface to PCLread and PCLstop
- - Java interface added
- - support for more processor types / operating systems
- - reduced overhead for PCL-calls
- - minor changes to supported events (including elapsed cycle counter,
MFLOPS)

The software is copyrighted. Copyright 1998,1999 by Forschungszentrum
Juelich
GmbH, Federal Republic of Germany.

PCL uses the following packages (see the documentation for details):
  - Linux : msr-device (Stephan Meyer)
  - Solaris: perfmon (Richard Enbody)
  - AIX : PMapi (IBM)

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

Hello,

I have released a new version of mp3blaster, version 2.0b11. Mp3blaster
is an interactive text-based program that plays mp3 audio files. It is
one of the very few mp3 players for the text console that allows full
interactive control during playback. Another important feature is the
ease with which one can create and store playlists grouped by albums.

Important recent changes are:
- -plays VBR (variable bitrate) mp3s and fixed bitrate mp3s with greatly
 improved reliability.
- -memory leak greatly reduced.
- -Better detection of bad compiler/libc combinations. Patching of system
include files is no longer needed.
- -id3tag code with genre support
- -mp3 to wav conversion from file browser menu

You can download mp3blaster 2.0b11 from these places:
ftp://mud.stack.nl/pub/mp3blaster/
http://www.stack.nl/~brama/mp3blaster.html
ftp://sunsite.unc.edu/pub/Linux/apps/sound/players/ (soon after this post)
