        This does not appear to be a problem.

        It sounds like messenger is reporting zulu time (universal
time coordinate) as it should.  e-mail is international in range,
so time is typically reported at the prime meridian.  This
response is in fact international and has probably been routed
across timezones.

        Since you report a display of EDT below, I assume you
don't have a problem.  If your system displayed EST on this
date, and reports zulu time with an offset of 4 hours, you
would have a problem.  If your time zone is
set properly (see timezone(5)) you should now display in EDT.
(I assume that Ontario switches to daylight saving time)
