First things first - are you sure that Linux is seeing your
printer port?  I don't know about a stock Redhat install, but you
should a) watch your boot sequence to verify that the printer port(s)
is detected and b) make certain that your kernel/module are
compiled to do something with it (them).

It sounds like linux isn't sending anything to the port itself - therefore,
it's not getting to the printer (I *assume* that you can readily verify
that the printer/computer combination works in Windows or something, eh?).
