There is a clear-cut distinction that I have between these lists. The
problem is always getting people to post to the right list. This is,
and will always be a problem.

1. linux-arm-announce is solely for announcements of new versions of software
   (eg, new kernel versions etc).

Both users and developers who want to be kept abrest of software
development in the ARM Linux community should subscribe or regularly
   read the archives.

2. linux-arm-kernel is for discussing kernel features/problems/enhancements.
This means all oops reports, driver problems, kernel booting problems,
new driver ideas, etc should be sent here.

Kernel developers should subscribe here. It is not expected that users
should subscribe; in fact they shouldn't need to. If users find a kernel
problem, then they can email this list, and replies will get copied to
   themselves.

3. linux-arm is for everything that does not fall into the above categories,
   ie, problems in glibc, etc.

Dispite this (or similar) description being on the web site, I've recently
seen people reply that was sent to linux-arm-kernel, but they decided to
change the list to linux-arm even though it was a clear-cut kernel issue.

Think of the -ad as a supplemental list; it allows people who don't want to
receive such stuff to "opt-out".

However, you are right that the -ad list will probably not receive a lot of
mail, and therefore is of limited value, but I believe that giving people
the option of opting out is a right they should have.
