Subject:iPAQ screen switching

Hello,
we are planning to use either the Handheld or the Familiar Linux distr=
ibution for the iPAQ to run two Java applications. Ideally, we would l=
ike to display each application separately on the two different screen =
orientations that can be toggled=20
by touching the screen along the top, left, and bottom sides. However,=
the default functionality simply re-orients the screen but displays th=
e same buffer.

Is there any way to have the two applications address two separate scre=
en buffers?

Alternatively, if the system fires an event when the screen size is swi=
tched by the user touching an edge, then the two applications could cat=
ch the event and resize themselves accordingly. Does anyone know of an=
y such event?

Finally, it is a bit worrying that the default screen size appears to b=
e larger than the available physical size, in either orientation. Can =
that be controlled/adjusted?

Thank you very much,
