Most of the time, you can get along with SLIP over the serial ports. If
you have a SLIP driver for your kernel, you can use the sliplogin program
(very easy variant) or, even better, dip, to have an IP connection between
the two computers.
Then you can do all the usual stuff like ftp, telnet, uucp etc.
