The only thing my RiscPC gets used for now is running my desktop and
providing disk storage for the master kernel trees.

I wonder. Create a nice large file on the disk. Write a program that
reads it in 1MB chunks into the same area of memory. Time that program
against a stop watch, and compare to the elapsed time on the machine.

Linux does have a driver that may be suitable for that chip; rather than
trying to merge the "expansion card" support into it, I think it'd be
better to create a separate version; its likely to require some specific
hacks.

A few years ago, I was in touch with John Balance (sp) of Castle Tech.
Around that time, they weren't open-source friendly, and as such no
drivers ever got written for their cards. I don't know if they've
changed, but I'm willing to listen if they have.
