Roughly what proportion of a binary is return from functions? ie will it make
binaries about 1% larger and 1% slower

I think we're out in the cold already, as we can't use LDRH and STRH. RiscPC
StrongARM owners are already going to need dumbed down distributions.
An option either in the compiler or the linker that I can use to compile
binaries that work reliably on my machine is all that I'd like.
(As would how many hundreds of other RiscPC owning potential ARMLinux users?)

My problem is that I don't (yet) know how to write the changes necessary
