Not quite.  True indeed if you use a Radio Shack class soldering iron
and/or solder.  But professionals (such as the assembly technicians
down the hall from my office) solder PQFP-240 packages by hand with
just exactly the tools Philip mentioned every day.  And even amateurs
such as I can do it; I have a board with several dense PQFPs at home
to prove it.

Which is not to say that I would *enjoy* swapping out an SA-110, but I 
know I could do it if I had to.

Now, an SA-285, that's a different story... :-(
