It sounds familiar. I seem to remember asking this sort of question about
11 months ago when I was trying to bootstrap ELF from a.out.

I also seem to remember building a static-lined ld (cross linker, a.out itself
put linking ELF binaries). I think you'll need to rebuild your linker to be
static rather than use shared libraries.
