I can resolve it fine:

$ /usr/sbin/ping ftp.netwinder.org
PING gw.netwinder.org: 64 byte packets
64 bytes from 207.245.35.202: icmp_seq=0. time=153. ms

maybe you got the wrong round robin DNS server?  maybe they have a
bad secondary?  maybe it got fixed since you posted?
