Hi, I have been using an asus board with intel core quad cpu q6600 for about a year now with no hassles.
Does have a fairly noisy fan but I haven't actually looked into replacing it with a quieter system. I have found asus boards to be very compatible with Linux and especially my audio needs over the years.
