What about seq24? It's simple and uses GTK. I think it also has something where you can draw lines on a canvas to change control parameters.
Seq24 is indeed very cool, I use it often and love it to death.
But a loop sequencer is something of a different beast than a "normal" track- based (for lack of a better term...) sequencer.
