my first attempt at using the vp patches ended due to frequent crashes in x11 without using jack at all, but then i found i had also enabled a new 3d module which was probably faulty. will try again rsn - i need a running jackd for a lesson i'm giving later today, but after that it's blood-and-gore-and-kernel-patch time :)
