Hello. I was surprised at the sudden flood of this ml, and even at the popularity of HTMLed mail :-) Some of you might have wondered whether I'm still alive or not. Yes, I'm even now looking at the awedrv's source code sometimes, but the development is vveerryy slow. Anyway, let us talk about the installation problem on RH-5.1. Historically I have confirmed the installation on RH-5.0 in the following situations. 1. Installation on RH-5.0 using install-rh.sh: The RH-5.0 system has the modulized sound drivers like the recent 2.1.x kernel as default. The awedrv is installed as an individual module (sbawe.o). This works certainly although there occurs a little compilation error occasionally. 2. Installation on RH-5.0, but the kernel is replaced with standard linux-2.0.x. In this case, using install.sh script. I confirmed that awedrv-0.4.2d works fine on 2.0.35 kernel. (Of course, I mean the installation of awedrv, that is, wave table function :-) I found that most of installation problems on RH-5.0 came from the misunderstanding of the difference above due to insufficient documents. Also, the problem came from RH's sound configuration program. (I forgot the name, soundcfg or something like it?) Since awedrv was not supported officially by this program, users must edit isapnp.conf and conf.modules manually. This may lead to confusion. Now, we have a new problem: installation on RH-5.1. I've never used RHL on my PC, then I have no idea for the following questions. 1. Compatibility with RH-5.0 RH-5.1 has the compatible modulized sound driver with RH-5.0? Is it still possible to install awedrv by install-rh.sh? 2. Update from RH-5.0 to RH-5.1 What happens if updated from RH-5.0? 3. PnP initialization Is there any configuration program for PnP and modules? I believe that the use of both standard linux-2.0.x package and isapnp tools must work even on RH-5.1. Anyway, if someone experienced installtion on RH-5.1, please let me know how does it work.
