* DELL AND IBM GETTING AGGRESSIVE ABOUT LINUX

Dell Computer is offering Linux versions of its business-channel lines
of computers and has eliminated the price difference that had made
Linux systems more expensive than its Windows systems. In addition, the
company announced a Web site dedicated to its Linux efforts
(http://www.dell.com/linux/).
Dell will pre-install Linux, unlike most competing computer
manufacturers who merely certify their hardware for Linux and let
customers or Linux consultants perform the installation. The Dell
machines offer only Red Hat's version of Linux.
IBM has certified several of its Intel-based Netfinity 3000 and 5000
servers to work with Linux versions offered by Red Hat, SuSE,
TurboLinux (Pacific HiTech), and OpenLinux (Caldera Systems). IBM has
also announced the availability of a Linux driver for its ServRAID 3
adapter.
