Subj: Linux Counter Internationalization Project
----------------------------------
The Linux Counter Board of Directors has approved a new project: the Linux
Counter Internationalization Project - making the pages available to users
in their native language automatically. This will make the Linux Counter
accessible to hundreds of millions of people who are not fluent in English.
This will increase the number of people and machines registered, and also
reduce the number of errors in the data entered. Henry White has
volunteered to coordinate the project.
Initially, we will make translations of index.php3, enter-person.html,
machine-form.html, and this announcement. We will store these 4 pages in a
directory on the server, with proper extensions. Apache will do the rest
automatically when the user accesses the main URL
http://counter.li.org/
This amounts to roughly 2000 words which will probably take an hour or two
to translate. Obviously, the more volunteers, the lighter the load for
everyone and the quicker we will have this convenience for your fellow
countrymen. Once this initial phase is completed, we will begin work on
the other pages. Eventually, everything will be translated into as many
languages as possible.
You can see for the multilanguage version at
