Brazil: Microsoft denies anti-competitive charges
Microsoft said Monday that it had not engaged in illegal
marketing practices in Brazil, where the U.S. software giant is
the target of a probe into whether it unfairly tried to dominate
the market for financial-management software.
"Microsoft hasn't done anything wrong in the marketplace
in Brazil," company spokesman Ricardo Adame said.
Adame was responding to a finding issued last Friday by
a unit of Brazil's Justice Ministry that said Microsoft had
abused its market power by selling its Money financial software
with its Office suite of business applications.
The agency, which specializes in economic law, recommended that a
separate office fine Microsoft up to 30 percent of last year's
local sales and ban it for five years from bidding for government
contracts.
It was unclear when a final ruling would be made on the
issue, Adame said.
