FYI, I saw a lot of the press around Red Hat's agreement with
GKN, but didn't see this news release, which included a quote
from me.

Red Hat gains a new partner

DURHAM -- Red Hat announced a partnership Tuesday with Global
Knowledge Network to offer Red Hat's popular training and
certification courses in 15 cities across the country.

About 500 people from around the world have completed Red Hat's
certified engineer program, which has been available since February
only at Red Hat's headquarters in Durham.
By teaming with GKN, Red Hat will be able to reach more potential
corporate customers by offering training at a variety of locations.
Corporate customers will be crucial to the success of Red Hat, which
makes and distributes the Linux computer operating system. Linux has
enjoyed widespread support from the technical community, but
corporate and business customers must be won over before Red Hat and
Linux can really take on Microsoft. The software giant's Windows NT
operating system is the de facto standard in the business world.

"{The GKN partnership} continues our mission to provide complete
software, training and support for enterprise corporations using or
migrating to open source software," said Tim Buckley, senior vice
president and chief operating officer for Red Hat.

The Durham company announced in June that it would team with
Austin, Texas-based Collective Technologies to offer on-site
consulting services for business customers.

GKN will start offering the Red Hat Linux training classes in
September. The certification program, which teaches and tests
engineers to ensure that they are competent in working with Red Hat
Linux in a business environment, involves four days of classes and
one day of testing.

Other Linux certification programs are available or being
developed. The all-volunteer Linux Professional Institute plans to
start offering vendor-neutral Linux certification classes through
Virtual University Enterprises next month.

Dan York, chairman of LPI and a manager at San Francisco-based
LinuxCare, said Red Hat is supporting efforts to create a vendor-
neutral Linux certification.

"There are always going to be people who want to specialize to a
certain degree," York said, "so it makes sense for Red Hat to offer a
program for them."

Red Hat, which competes against a handful of other providers, has
emerged as the leading Linux brand. Last month, Red Hat filed for a
public offering of stock, which is expected to take place in August.
