I think the problem is with X servers, not window managers.
BTW, I'm writing this in X in a Debian box with an AGP card
(Trident 3dImage975). However, even with a recent X server
I have to disable acceleration in the XF86Config file to
get it working. (adding 'Option "NoAccel"' line in the
'Device' section of my X config file).
