I'd suggest trying to use a rescue boot disk, use the bare.i in the /boot.144
dir of the slakware distribution CD as well as making a second disk with
/rootdsks/rescue.gz. you can use dd to make these, and if you dont have access
to another linux or *nix box, use the rawrite utility from the distribution to
write the images to floppy's in DO$. If you dont have the CD you can download
these files from ftp.cdrom.com in the pub/linux/slakware(yourVersionHere)/ 
once in try to mount your root partition with a command like 
# mount /dev/hda2 and see if you cant get that to work. let me know what you
come up with :)
