I'd suggest trying to use a rescue boot disk, use the bare.i in the /boot.144 dir of the slakware distribution CD as well as making a second disk with /rootdsks/rescue.gz. you can use dd to make these, and if you dont have access to another linux or *nix box, use the rawrite utility from the distribution to write the images to floppy's in DO$.
