I have a UPS application which sends messages to the console when a UPS event occurs. The message format is: echo "UPS Warning: Power is out.\n" or echo "UPS Message: Battery is low\n Shutdown system\n" When these messages echo to the console, the \n shows and I don't get a newline. How can I correct this? Also is it possible to shutdown NT and/or Win95/98 by doing something with these messages? I know that I can redirect them as email but how to make them start a process?
