Thanks to all who responded,
It was a bad boot floppy. I checked my old Debian boot floppy and it loaded.
I made a new RH boot floppy (on my Mac under NT...) and was on my way...
BTW: The RH installer gets to the point of setting up XF86, it tests the
video card (Virge.VX) clicks on and off once, and then finally stays off.
I'm going to have to try to install the X server separately after I've
finished the main install.
