No Mouse

I just installed Red Hat Linux but I get no mouse for Xwindows and when I
reboot it seems to freeze the system right at the mouse line  mouse cmp?
maybe?  I'm running a 120 pentium with the mouse on com 1 serial port. It
works fine in Windows 98
