dial in for windows dial-up

I'm striving to set up a dial-in server. (RedHat 5.2/kernel2.2.1/pppd2.3.5)
mgetty works fine, it answers and fires up pppd.
But w95 dial-up clients fail to authenticate.
How should I configure the authentication in that case ?
