Gerard,

I've now have vgetty playing the outgoing message, recording the incoming
message and accepting incoming faxes. I used the vm program to record the
outgoing message through the modems microphone input. The quality is poor do to
internally generated background noise though. Its probably just my hardware. I
can play messages through the modems speaker or through the sound card, using
Kvoice. But I still can not get it to use the Handset to play through or record
from. Its not terribly important, but I want to figure it out.

As for documentation go to "http://alpha.greenie.net/vgetty/" This site has some
decent info., also try running a Google search on vgetty,
"http://www.google.com" use the linux search under Google for linux specific
info.

Also there seems to be some undocumented tricks to get certain modems to work. I
have a Telepath 33.6 voice/fax/modem. Made by USR for Gateway. I found that
putting in a minimum record time helped.

I've been tinkering with the idea of opening up the source code for Kvoice and
Vgetty and seeing if I can make any sense out of it. Unfortunately my only C
experience is for low end embedded processors like the Micro Chip's and Motorola
HC05's.

Later
Stuart

You're further into it than I am mate! Can't get mine to beep at me
either, but I can get it to pick up the phone, and I can record a message,
though I haven't managed to get it to playback when the phone's picked up
at the moment. Have you found, by any chance, some docs for vgetty? I
still haven't managed to find anything out along those lines, which seems
to be my main prob.

Have you got the fax picking up yet?

Gerard
