Hello ,
See I've this big problem. I want to run enlightenment which I've
compiled with a lot difficulty and then I get to know that its esd module
requires soundcard to be working under linux exactly the error given is
/dev/dsp does not initialize when esd is executed by enlightenment. Now I've
tried so hard to make my opiti931 soundcard to work under linux but I've
been unsuccessful till now. I've used oss but it hangs the os when I give
the soundon command.(weird) though it is successful while checking for
kernel versions.
When I run the script in /etc/rc.d/init.d/sound start (even restart
option shows it)then it shows
Soundcard not configured.
I run sndconfig it shows sb: dsp reset failed and tries to load the opl3
module. Where as my /dev/sndstat shows this

Sound Driver:3.5.4-960630
Kernel: Linux localhost.localdomain 2.0.32 #1 Wed Nov 19 00:46:45 EST 1997
i586
Config options: 0

Installed drivers:

Card config:

Audio devices:

Synth devices:

Midi devices:

Timers:
0: System clock

Mixers:

At the boot time also kernel tries to load the sound.o module but it shows
the same dsp: reset failed error while seems that it is successful in
loading the opl3 module.
Now please dont tell me that I've to recompile the kernel it seems to be too
long for my Pentium 100.

So the Questions are
*Is there any way through which i can run enlightenment DR0.14 without
soundcard support esd.(I'm doubtful)
*What should I do to make my soundcard work in Linux. It would be a pleasure
to hear this.

Thanks in advance to all those who would be reading this till here. Please
help me out so that I can be enlightened too :-)

Bye
Jaideep Gandecha
