math program.

Hello!

I was looking for a math program, like mathlab but for linux. I found
mathlab but is comercial. I prefer to get one for free.
I downloaded octave. but needs lincurses 4. I'm using RH 5.
When I tried to upgrade ncurses to version 4 I had a lot of problems.
I'm studying algebra and those things so I need a prog to check the
excercises results. (linear algebra)
I don't need to plot everything.

I hope I made myself understood.
