Thank you dave! This seems to have been  step in the right way.
According to the manpage for route, the gateway should be set up before it 
is used.
How do I do that?

In fact I'm trying to establish a static internet connection:
Ip: 137.226.73.10
netmask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway 137.226.73.1
DNS-server: 137.226.73.222

Could you help?
