I think I may be able to help u. If you're still stuck after this
send me a mail with the following specs:
        -card type: pci, isa
        -jumperless or isa+jumpers
        -vendor and exact model

Now to your problem. First of all, check if u have free irqs &
adresess 4 the cards. I used msdos setup program to save the irq &
adress in the card's eeprom. This setup should be on the disk that cames
with the card. Remeber: dos not 'doze! After that u should have 2 cards
detected by Linux if everything's okay...
Last week I had 2 pci cards in my computer. One Via 82C926 and
Realtek 80xxx (don't remember quite well now). Both cards were
programmed in dos. Null problemo.
But in RH51 (which I'm currently using) there is a strange problem.
With kernel 2.0.34 and >
pci Via 82C926 doesn't work with ne2000 pci driver (kernel or module). I
have a Intel 82439TX (k6-200).
I get someting like this: 'eth0: timeout waiting for TX ......". After
some research I've figured out: Intel TX and Via have a problem...?!!?
Same ethernet card on an ViaMPV3 works quite fine. Same 4 Intel TX with
only the Realtek eth. card. Same RH51 and 2.0.34. Hmmm..... The good
news is I still can use the pci Via card on my system. NE2000 isa driver
:-).
So if u have Via ethernet+Intel TX+ 2.0.34 and > the card is
okay....elsewere. (PCI driver).
    Hope this heps u forward.
