I'll tell you which my situation perhaps this can help you:

        I have in a machine Linux/WNT ( called Basajaun ) under NT I
have a X Server Free, and in other machine in my house I have Linux (
called Akerbeltz ) box.
For connecting the X-servers you have to do this:

        This must be in .bashrc

1.- Export the variable DISPLAY , export DISPLAY = Basajaun?s
IP number:0.0 ( see help )
2.- xhost +Basajaun ( if this name is in the machine where you
want to see the graphical output, man xhost if troubles ).

I can't remember all very well but more or less is:

1.- telnet from Akerbekltz to Basajaun ( if you are trying to
see Akerbeltz's xterms in Basajaun )
2.- make a xterm, this xterm you'll see in Basajaun.

I can't remeber all ( now I'm far from my house and I can't see
my configuration ) if you are specially interested I can give my
configuration.

I my house works very well, Linux vs. Linux and Linux vs.
Windows NT - X Server
I have tested this with octave and gnuplot without any problem !

My X-Server in Windows NT is Microimages, I have no enough
money.

        Regards.
